As they promised, Duke sent me an email this morning referring me to their application website. "You may now access your decision online," it said.
After digging through several screens, I arrived at a letter that started with one word: "Congratulations!"
After visiting Duke and meeting so many amazing students and applicants, I'm ecstatic to have an opportunity to attend their school.
While I'm unimpressed with Duke's hands-off notification approach (I've received a phone call from Kellogg and Michigan) it was nice knowing exactly when I'd hear from the admissions committee and, to their credit, they were right on time. While there isn't a lot of hard information (like admit weekend dates or web resources), I know the following: My tuition deposit is due May 1 and I will receive merit-based scholarship decisions next week.
First of all, I'm stunned that I've gone three-for-three in my applications. Clearly, I had unbelievable support and I owe a huge dept of gratitude to several people who have helped me throughout this process. My recommendation writers, my mentors, my friends - all of whom were brilliant sources of information and inspiration. I specifically need to thank Sam, who demonstrated infinite patience and a sharp eye as my primary essay editor.
I still need to step back and assess my options, but if I had to pick a front-runner, I'd choose Kellogg. They've been first class in every aspect of the admissions process and continue to impress me with their approach. While I'd like to know more about their financial aid package and I still have to attend their admit weekend, they've worked hard to make me feel wanted.
